Outliers and Wallflowers

6 Bach Inventions
(selected, probably interspersed throughout the program)
Schumann, Fantasy in C, op 17
Alphonse Hasselmans, La Source
Lash, Songs (selected, interspersed throughout the program)
Adam Roberts, Rounds

This program is a very personal admixture of pieces. I feel it reflects who I am as a harpist: equal parts diligent crafts-person and contrarian. The Hasselmans etude is, in my mind, a kind of hidden treasure: a rather humble wallflower of a piece which is perhaps one of the most quintessentially harp-like pieces ever in instrumental idiom. On the other end of the spectrum is a piece which one might feel should never be attempted on the harp: the Schumann Fantasy in C for piano, a piece Schumann dedicated to his virtuoso pianist-friend, Franz Liszt. Then a new piece written just for me: Adam Roberts' dazzling and acrobatic "Rounds," which is, I can safely say, one of the most challenging and deeply satisfying projects I've taken on in recent years. A selection of Bach inventions are sprinkled alternating with my songs, in various inters))al ways throughout the program.
